Grandma’s Brownies

Story written by

My grandmother used to make a batch of brownies (cookies, cakes, pies and all sort of sugary goodness) when I was a child and they were like no others. I have found over the years that the temperature of the eggs, the butter, and the order in which you mix them all determine the outcome. Baking is much like a science experiment. I didn’t realize that growing up, baking was fun and had an awesome ending – who knew?!

I will share with you my grandmother’s recipe that I have shared with many over the years…and I am not certain why; but my daughters as well as friends swear that their brownies just don’t taste the same….maybe so or maybe it’s a ploy just to get me to make the brownies? 🙂

Grandma’s Brownies

2 sticks of melted butter

dump in a heaping 1/4 cup of dark cocoa powder

do not mix anything together yet

2 cups of sugar

2 teaspoons (or so) of vanilla

4 eggs

then finally 1 1/2 cups of flour

now…mix all BY HAND

pour into a 9X13 buttered glass pan lightly sprinkled with a dab of the dark cocoa powder and bake at 400 degrees…in my old oven…in my new oven it’s 380 for about 20 minutes…just until the knife comes out clean…do not over bake!!!

I will tell you that every single time I make these they turn out different. I swear my grandmother is standing over watching down laughing….but I can also tell you that every time they turn out wonderfully – maybe because they are always filled with a heaping load of love?

Good luck! And as my youngest daughter used to scribble on the bottom of her own little recipe cards as a 6 year old…ENJOY!
